Manufactured from 1938, the BA-10 armored car was a Soviet creation based on the GAZ-AAA three-axle truck. Its body was armored with rolled plates, and it featured a rear turret housing a 45-mm gun and a 7.62-mm machine gun. The BA-10s saw extensive use by the Soviet Army in the Winter War of 1940 and at the start of WWII on the Eastern Front. Captured BA-10s were employed by the Germans as command and reconnaissance vehicles.
